Luc Nicon was born in 1954 in the Creuse region of France. In the seven decades since then, he has had a tapestry of careers filled with defining experiences. Those years have driven him to his biggest mission – to bring emotional regulation to everyone so that we can all live the fullest lives we were born to live. His own story might explain why he thinks in this way…
Struggling at school, Luc left formal education at the age of 16 and took up low-skilled jobs to make ends meet. Recognising that he loved to learn but that school didn’t know how to teach him, he began to teach himself in ways that suited his own way of learning. This paid off, he became an accountant at the age of 20, and then went on to become a chief accountant, then the finance officer of a media group, and eventually ended up running a management consultancy firm. Whilst doing all of this, he also became a successful writer for theatre and cinema. With the two parts to his life, Luc straddled the rational and the emotional…the formal and the creative.
In finding his drive and passion for education, Luc developed innovative teaching methods wherever he worked: he opened a theater school, trained politicians in oral communication, initiated experimental projects with several public and private schools, worked with sports federations, collaborated with professional organisations and several training services for large companies.
And here we are today.
Through his research, Luc has studied and brought to light a natural physiological capacity to regulate emotions, showing us that, one emotion at a time, we can permanently take control of the emotional difficulties that prevent us from being our true selves. He calls this Tipi emotional regulation.
In 2003, Luc published “Comprendre ses émotions” (“Understanding Emotions“) his first book on the subject, and he created the Tipi Association to undertake a large study of nearly 300 people experiencing emotional difficulty. The results of the study corroborated the existence and effectiveness of emotional regulation. The full study report is set out in his book “Tipi”, published in 2007.
Even though “Tipi” was published and distributed on a small scale, it became a big success, attracting the attention of many therapists. In response to the demand, Luc then set up a series of professional training programs using all of his teaching methods, experience, and findings. Today, more than 3,500 professionals have been trained around the world thanks to the Tipi Association’s programs. It’s wonderful to see just how far the professional practice of emotional regulation has come – it’s now widespread across the world.
Luc’s mission is to make his findings open and accessible to everyone, so wherever he can, he always gives speeches, lectures, and even free training. He published “Sensory Reliving” in 2013 so that it could both create further understanding about emotional regulation but also serve effectively as a manual – clearly setting out how to regulate emotions in the moment that people experience emotional difficulty. Of course, empowering adults was one thing but Luc also wanted to bring this skill to children. So, in 2019, he published ‘Not Afraid Anymore‘, an illustrated children book to help kids over 5 years of age to use their natural capacity for emotional regulation.
Most recently, Luc has pursued his research and in a new book that is soon to be published, he sets out the far-reaching possibilities of emotional regulation as applied to behavioral and physical disorders. In highlighting the interdependence between the physical body and emotions, Luc gives us a profoundly new and global vision of our physical and mental health.

Buy nowSensory Reliving
In "Sensory Reliving", Luc describes how the root cause of any undesirable emotion is always linked to a trauma recorded in our body's memory, and that in turn produces a specific set of physical sensations.
We have a natural capacity to use these physical sensations to relive our trauma in a sensory way and regulate it permanently.
Tipi
“Tipi” describes a research study carried out in 2003 on unconscious fears. Out of the 278 research subjects suffering from phobias, depression, inhibition, irritability, and anxiety, 97% permanently regulated their emotional difficulty.
Through this study, Luc concluded that the approach revolutionises how we perceive human emotional functioning. It also reveals how our pre-natal experiences are decisive in the origin of our fears, of our emotional suffering, and more generally, in the construction of our personality.
Understanding Emotions
“Understanding Emotions” helps us better understand our emotions and behaviours and explains how we can repair the majority of our emotional wounds ourselves.
